Duke University has become the latest institution to break into the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partnership's (GPP) list of the "Top 25" green power purchasers. Overall, the school is purchasing 54 million kWh per year of renewable energy certificates (RECs) supplied through an agreement with Sterling Planet, Inc. The most recent commitment by a Duke program comes from the Fuqua School of Business, which committed to offset 100% of its electricity usage with REC purchases.
The GPP purchaser list is updated four times annually. Combined, the Top 25 purchases amount to 3.7 billion kWh of green power annually.
