The World Bank Group (WBG) announced that it will become "carbon neutral" in its Washington, DC headquarters offices, support facilities, and business travel. The carbon neutrality will be achieved through the purchase of 107 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs), representing 100% of the WBG's annual local electricity usage, and the purchase of 59,400 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in verified emissions reductions (VERs) from projects in developing countries. The RECs are being supplied by WindCurrent, which sells a Green-e certified "green tag" product sourced from wind projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.
