Spanish company, Iberdrola, one of the world's top wind project owners and operators, announced that it is acquiring Community Energy, Inc. (CEI), a leading U.S. marketer of wind energy in voluntary purchase markets. The CEI acquisition is one component of a larger corporate expansion strategy with a stated goal of 10,000 MW of renewable energy development worldwide by 2011, up from about 3,600 MW today. CEI currently has more than 2,000 MW of wind energy projects in the development pipeline in the United States.
