Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington is purchasing renewable energy for 100% of its electricity needs, making it one of the largest purchases among colleges and universities nationally according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership. The college is purchasing more than 16 million kWh of wind energy annually for its Olympia and Tacoma campuses from Puget Sound Energy and Tacoma Power. The green power purchase is financed through a fee of $1 per credit-hour per student, which went into effect in October 2005.
