On January 1, Mason County PUD No. 3 lowered the price of wind energy offered through its Mason Evergreen Power program to 1.0¢/kWh from 2.0¢/kWh. Also, now customers can choose to participate at the 100% level in addition to buying 100-kWh monthly blocks of wind energy. The utility attributed the wind rate decrease to economies of scale at the Nine Canyon Wind Project from which the program is supplied, and a reduction in transmission costs. Mason County PUD No. 3 owns a 2-MW share of the 63.7-MW project, which is the largest publicly owned wind farm in the United States.
