Liz Claiborne Purchases Green Power

November 2005 - Liz Claiborne Inc. announced the acquisition of prAna, a sportswear apparel and accessories company, and a commitment to join prAna's Natural Power Initiative. Beginning this fall, Liz Claiborne will purchase approximately 25 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) sourced from wind energy facilities nationwide to offset 100% of the electricity consumption of its New Jersey headquarters campus.

prAna launched its Natural Power Initiative earlier this fall, purchasing RECs to offset the electricity needs of its headquarters, 250 of its retailers, and all residences of its full-time employees. Under an agreement with 3 Phases Energy (now serviced by 3Degrees), prAna will purchase 16.5 million kWh of Green-e certified wind energy certificates in 2006. Eventually, prAna plans to purchase wind power for its entire North American dealer base of approximately 1,000 retail partners as well as its contracted U.S.-based sewing facilities.
