The USDA Forest Service and the Colorado Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation (OEMC) announced that the Forest Service has committed to purchase 730,000 kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) derived from co-firing forest thinnings in a Colorado coal plant. The purchase is equivalent to the amount of energy needed to power seven Forest Service district offices for one year.
