Xcel Energy announced that more than 11,000 Minnesota-based customers have signed up for the utility's Windsource program, prompting the utility to add new wind turbines to meet the increased demand. Under the program, customers can purchase 100-kWh blocks of wind energy for an additional $2.00 monthly charge, or a rate premium of 2¢/kWh. Systemwide, more than 40,000 customers are participating in the Windsource program, which is offered by the utility in its Minnesota, Colorado and New Mexico service territories.
