Green Mountain Energy Company, an Austin-based national green power marketer, announced a new "Pollution Free" electricity product for Texas residential customers that is priced at the local incumbent utility's "price to beat," meaning that customers can purchase a 100% renewable electricity product at no additional cost over the price charged by their local electric utility. Other electricity marketers are offering standard electricity service at prices below the "price to beat" in the state's competitive retail electricity market.
The product is supplied from a combination of hydropower (90%) and wind energy (10%) resources. Green Mountain also offers Texans a 100% wind energy product that is priced at a variable rate of 1.0¢/kWh above the local "price to beat" or about $10 more per month for the average residential customer.
