November 2006 - Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO), which supplies wholesale power to 12 rural electric cooperatives and one municipal electric cooperative in Iowa, offers a green power option to its member utilities. Under the program, retail customers of participating distribution utilities can purchase wind energy in 50-kWh or 100-kWh increments each month at a rate premium of 1.5¢/kWh to 2.5¢/kWh, depending on the cooperative. CIPCO supplies the program through a 2-MW purchase from a wind farm in northern Iowa. Collectively, the 13 distribution utilities serve 260,000 customers in Iowa.
