February 2003 - Grant County PUD, a public utility serving about 35,000 retail customers in central Washington, is offering its customers a wind power option. Under its Alternative Energy Resources program, customers can purchase 100-kWh blocks of wind power for an extra $2.00 per month or 2.0¢/kWh. The power is supplied from Grant County's 25% share of the 50-MW Nine Canyon Wind project located in eastern Washington.
The utility is required to offer a renewable energy purchase option under a state law enacted in 2001.
