Environmental Marketing Subcommittee of the National Association of Attorneys General's Energy Deregulation Working Group
CHRISTINE T. MILLIKEN
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ATTORNEYS GENERAL
Executive Director
General Counsel
Dear Interested Party:
On Friday, June 11, 1999, the Environmental Marketing Subcommittee of the National Association of Attorneys General's (NAAG's) Energy Deregulation Working Group will hold a public hearing on a draft set of Environmental Marketing Guidelines. The hearing will take place at room 283, Hall of the States, 444 North Capitol St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20001, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until 5:30 p.m. A copy of the draft Guidelines accompanies this letter.
Interested parties — including members of the electric power industry, regulatory agencies, and environmental and consumer groups — are invited to present their views on the Guidelines. Due to be considered by the Attorneys General later in the year, the Guidelines will set out principles, commentary and examples designed to provide guidance on how to avoid making deceptive environmental marketing claims for electricity products and companies. The current draft is preliminary in nature, has not yet been recommended to the Attorneys General, and has not been endorsed by any Attorneys General.
If you plan to attend the meeting, please let Emily Myers, at NAAG (202) 326- 6015, know no later than June 8, preferably by e-mail. Written comments may also be submitted to Ms. Myers through July 9, 1999, preferably by e-mail.
Very truly yours,
Hardy Myers
Attorney General of Oregon
Chair, NAAG Environmental Marketing Subcommittee
