March 2009 - Catholic University plans to expand its purchases of renewable energy through savings achieved by participating in Hess Energy Marketing’s Demand Response program. Under the program, customers in the Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland (PJM) market can be paid for committing to reduce electricity usage during times of peak demand when power grids are under significant stress. In turn, Hess is paid by regional power pools for preparing its customers to reduce energy consumption during peak usage periods. By participating in the program, Catholic University will receive $350,000 over the next four years, enabling the university to purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) for 30 percent of its total electric demand and invest in energy reduction programs on campus.
As part of the Demand Response program, the university received an energy audit and advanced metering equipment and, in conjunction with Hess, developed a comprehensive energy curtailment plan in the event that a regional power pool requests a short-term reduction in energy consumption.

October 2002 - Community Energy announced that it is partnering with Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES), an affiliate of Washington Gas, to offer wind energy to Capital-area businesses and residents.
The two companies also announced that they are supplying wind power to the U.S. Army, Catholic University, and the National Geographic Society (NGS). The Army purchase is equivalent to the entire power output of one, 1.5-MW wind turbine and will serve a portion of the electricity needs of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fort McNair, and Adelphi Labs. Catholic University is also purchasing the equivalent output of one turbine, which will provide about 12% of the university's power needs. The NGS purchase will account for about 5% of the electricity needs of its D.C. headquarters.
The wind power will be supplied from the 65-MW Mountaineer Wind Energy Center under construction in Tucker County, West Virginia. The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2002. Exelon Power Team has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement for the output of the project.
