March 2007 - Connecticut College announced that it has expanded its green power purchases to meet 100% of its annual electricity needs. This year, under an agreement with 3 Phases Energy (now serviced by 3Degrees), the college is purchasing 15 million kWh of Green-e certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) derived from wind energy facilities. April 2003 - EAD Environmental, a New York City-based marketer of renewable energy certificates and greenhouse gas credits, is supplying two Connecticut-based colleges with green power. Connecticut College is purchasing 3.2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind energy certificates annually, which represents 22% of the college's electricity needs. And students of Trinity College in Hartford, CT, raised funds to purchase EAD-supplied certificates for a spring campus event.

EAD certificates are Green-e certified and marketed via the Internet in 500-kWh blocks for $7.50 or 1.5¢/kWh. The company is a subsidiary of Natsource, a broker of emissions credits and renewable energy certificates serving wholesale markets.

May 2001 - The Board of Trustees of Connecticut College unanimously approved a student measure calling for the College to purchase as much as 20% of its power needs from renewable energy sources. The move was spearheaded by the student body, which petitioned to raise student activity fees by $25 to pay the additional cost of purchasing the green power. The power will be purchased from the Connecticut Energy Cooperative, a Hartford-based, non-profit electricity provider that offers EcoWatt, a 100% renewable, Green-e certified power product.

As a result of the purchase, the entire Connecticut College community will have access to all cooperative products and services, including reduced lifetime memberships for their private use. Connecticut College has an enrollment of 1,670 men and women from 43 states and 59 countries.
