July 2010 - The Fairmont Washington, D.C. hotel has purchased 9.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy certificates (RECs), representing 100 percent of the hotel's electricity use. The wind RECs are being supplied by Renewable Choice Energy.
The Fairmont's purchase is part of a larger sustainability initiative by the hotel, which includes recycling programs, energy efficiency measures, water conservation, and other measures. The hotel also offers a green meeting option.
