June 2009 - Johnson Controls, Inc. completed installation of a 1.1-MW rooftop photovoltaic system at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in central Florida. The system occupies approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of roof space and is expected to generate 1.1 million kWh in its first year of operation.
Johnson Controls provided overall project development and management support for the installation, which also includes four 10-kW experimental systems that use a variety of PV modules and racking systems for educational and testing purposes. The OCCC, the second largest convention center in the U.S. as measured by square footage, now features an education center that will display system performance data and solar energy information to its roughly 1.4 million visitors per year.
