January 2009 - FPL Energy, a subsidiary of the FPL Group, has changed its name to NextEra Energy Resources and to mark the debut of its new brand, the company announced a five-year agreement to become the official renewable energy provider of the Daytona 500 and 19 other upcoming motorsports events held at Daytona International Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. Under the agreement, International Speedway Corp. (ISC), the parent company of the Daytona and Homestead-Miami speedways, will purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) from NextEra Energy Resources that will help fund a number of wind and solar energy projects.
