September 2009 - Twenty-six companies, organizations and individuals were recognized with national achievement awards at the Renewable Energy Markets 2009 Conference in Atlanta. The Green Power Leadership Awards recognize actions that are significantly advancing the development of renewable electricity sources through renewable energy markets. The awards are presented by the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Center for Resource Solutions.

Among green power purchasers, the highest honors went to the Deutsche Bank AG, Intel Corporation, Kohl’s Department Stores, and Mohawk Fine Papers, Inc., who were named Partners of the Year. 3Degrees and Bonneville Environmental Foundation were named Non-Utility Green Power Suppliers of the Year. Central Vermont Public Service Corporation, Madison Gas and Electric Company, and Puget Sound Energy won for Utility Green Power Programs of the Year. Ed Holt of Ed Holt & Associates, Inc. received the Green Power Pioneer Award.

August 2009 - The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership has released its latest list of top green power purchasers nationally. Retaining their places among the top five are, in order: Intel Corporation, PepsiCo, Whole Foods Market, Kohl’s Department Stores, and Dell Inc.

In addition, there were a number of newcomers to the Top 50 list this quarter including: Deutsche Bank AG (24th), Lockheed Martin Corporation (35th), The Bank of New York Mellon (37th), Herman Miller Inc. (46th), City of San Diego, CA (49th) and Citi (50th). Collectively, the top 50 largest purchases amount to more than 12.3 billion kWh annually, or more than 70 percent of the green power commitments made by all EPA Green Power Partners.

EPA’s Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,100 partner organizations that voluntarily purchase green power to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use. Overall, the partners buy more than 16 billion kWh of green power annually.

February 2009 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership issued revised lists of its leading green power partners nationally. For a second year, Intel Corporation remained at the top of the National Top 50 list while PepsiCo retained its position as the second largest purchaser. Dell Inc. climbed to third place with its annual green power purchases of more than 550 million kWh per year to meet 158% of its annual electricity demand. While a number of companies increased or decreased their annual purchase amounts, Kimberly-Clark Corp. vaulted onto the Top 50 list, jumping to the 15th spot with its use of an on-site biomass cogeneration boiler that generates 223 million kWh annually with wood waste. Also new to the list was Bloomberg L.D. with its purchase of 116.8 million kWh of green power, the equivalent of 50% of its electricity demand.

EPA’s Green Power Partnership works with more than 1000 partner organizations that are collectively buying more than 16 billion kWh of green power annually.

Among green power purchasers, the highest honors went to the Community of Bellingham, Washington, Cisco Systems, Intel Corporation, University of Pennsylvania, and WhiteWave Foods Company, who were named Partner of the Year. The City of Palo Alto Utilities, 3Degrees Inc., and Sterling Planet were Suppliers of the Year and AmerenUE won for New Green Power Program. Dr. Jan Hamrin, founder of the Center for Resource Solutions, received the Green Power Pioneer Award.

January 2008 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership issued revised lists of its leading green power partners nationally. Intel Corporation vaulted to the head of the National Top 25 list by committing to purchase 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy certificates annually. The U.S. Air Force climbed back to 3rd place after more than doubling its annual green power purchases to nearly 900 million kWh per year. In addition, HSBC North America jumped to the 10th spot by more than doubling its green power purchase to 300 million kWh per year. New to the National Top 25 list are two Texas cities—the City of Dallas (#9) and the City of Houston (#12), which are now the leading local government purchasers in EPA's program.

EPA also announced that fifty-three Fortune 500 companies are collectively purchasing more than 6 billion kWh of green power annually, surpassing the agency's challenge to double the size of their combined purchases. In December 2006, the EPA set a goal for Fortune 500 companies to exceed 5 billion kWh of green power purchases by the end of 2007.

EPA's Green Power Partnership works with more than 850 partner organizations that are collectively buying more than 13 billion kWh of green power annually.
