March 2006 - The City of Boston announced that it has entered into an agreement with Constellation New Energy to purchase renewable energy for more than 8% of the city's electricity needs, or 17.3 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually. The deal represents the largest renewable energy purchase by a local government in New England, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). With the purchase, Boston joins nearly 50 other municipal members in the EPA's Green Power Partnership.
