March 2005 - On February 11, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano issued an executive order calling for new state-funded buildings to meet energy efficiency standards and to obtain 10% of their electricity needs from renewable energy sources, which are defined as solar, wind, or thermal energy from biomass fuels for heating or cooling. The goal may also be met through the purchase of renewable energy credits. The order applies to all executive branch agencies but encourages other state offices to comply as well.
