July 2003 - Pepco Energy Services, Inc. announced that it has teamed with Community Energy, Inc. to supply an aggregation of New Jersey state agencies with Green-e certified wind-generated electricity. Under the 33-month agreement, Pepco Energy Services will supply the agencies with 54.9 million kWh or 20.6 MW of wind energy generated from wind farms in the mid-Atlantic region. More than 90% of the wind power could come from the 20-MW Bear Creek wind farm to be constructed near Wilkes-Barre, PA, less than 60 miles from northern New Jersey. The agencies entered into the agreement in part to meet the 10% environmentally friendly green power purchase goal established by New Jersey Governor James McGreevey.

May 2002 - The State of New Jersey reaffirmed its commitment to purchase green power by entering into a contract with Green Mountain Energy Company to purchase a total of 113 million kWh of renewables-based electricity over a 15-month period. Nearly 200 state facilities will receive power from Green Mountain Energy's Enviro Blend product, which is Green-e certified and supplied from renewable resources such as wind, water, biomass and solar generation. The green power purchase will meet 12% of the state governments' total electricity needs.
Under an earlier contract, the state was purchasing a blend of landfill gas and small hydro resources from Conectiv Energy (see previous story below).
News Release - New Jersey State Government Begins Buying Cleaner Power From Green Mountain Energy Company
May 2001 - A group of New Jersey agencies and universities are purchasing green power to meet about 15% of their collective electricity needs. The group has contracted with Conectiv Energy to purchase Nature's Power 50, a 50% renewable, Green-e certified product supplied from landfill gas and small hydro resources. Over the course of the 16-month contract, the group will purchase a total of 152 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) at a cost of $2.1 million, or about 1.7¢/kWh over the cost of system power. Conectiv will supply the power through January 2002.
Participants in the aggregation group include departments and agencies within the State of New Jersey; 11 state universities; NJ Transit; the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority; the New Jersey Turnpike Authority; the New Jersey Highway Authority; the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission; the Delaware River Port Authority; the New Jersey Water Supply Authority; South Jersey Transportation Authority; and Palisades Interstate Park Commission.
