March 1998 - The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) announced a set of principles aimed at fostering a credible market for green power. In part, the principles state that green power products must come from emerging renewable resources such as wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal, that new renewables sources should not be favored over existing resources, that rate-based renewable projects should not be repackaged and marketed under green power programs, and that product contents should be fully disclosed.
